چکیده

We show that (1) the Minimal False QCNF search-problem (MF-search) and the Minimal Unsatisfiable LTL formula search problem (MU-search) are FPSPACE complete because of the very expressive power of QBF/LTL, (2) we extend the PSPACE-hardness of the MF decision problem to the MU decision problem. As a consequence, we deduce a positive answer to the open question of PSPACE hardness of the inherent Vacuity Checking problem. We even show that the Inherent Non Vacuous formula search problem is also FPSPACE-

The Complexity of Some Subclasses of Minimal Unsatis able Formulas

This paper is concerned with the complexity of some natural subclasses of minimal unsatisfiable formulas. We show the D –completeness of the classes of maximal and marginal minimal unsatisfiable formulas. Then we consider the class Unique–MU of minimal unsatisfiable formulas which have after removing a clause exactly one satisfying truth assignment. We show that Unique–MU has the same complexit...

Polynomial-time recognition of minimal unsatisfiable formulas with fixed clause-variable difference

A formula (in conjunctive normal form) is said to be minimal unsatisfiable if it is unsatisfiable and deleting any clause makes it satisfiable. Let F(k) be the class of formulas such that the number of clauses exceeds the number of variables exactly by k. Every minimal unsatisfiable formula belongs to F(k) for some k ≥ 1. Polynomial–time algorithms are known to recognize minimal unsatisfiable f...

Minimal Unsatisfiable Formulas with Bounded Clause-Variable Difference are Fixed-Parameter Tractable

The deficiency of a propositional formula F in CNF with n variables and m clauses is defined as m−n. It is known that minimal unsatisfiable formulas (unsatisfiable formulas which become satisfiable by removing any clause) have positive deficiency. Recognition of minimal unsatisfiable formulas is NP-hard, and it was shown recently that minimal unsatisfiable formulas with deficiency k can be reco...

Recognition of minimal unsatisfiable CNF formulas (unsatisfiable CNF formulas which become satisfiable if any clause is removed) is a classical DP -complete problem. It was shown recently that minimal unsatisfiable formulas with n variables and n + k clauses can be recognized in time nO(k). We improve this result and present an algorithm with time complexity O(2kn4); hence the problem turns out...

On the Query Complexity of Selecting Few Minimal Sets

Propositional Satisfiability (SAT) solvers are routinely used for solving many function problems. A natural question that has seldom been addressed is: what is the best worst-case number of calls to a SAT solver for solving some target function problem? This paper develops tighter upper bounds on the query complexity of solving several function problems defined on propositional formulas. These ...
